Elbow Pain

iStock Photo Man in Pain 8You don’t have to be a tennis player to have a tennis elbow. (aka Lateral epicondylitis).

It can simply be difficult to lift a cup of tea, or perform everyday tasks like typing.

This can cause an overload of the tendon which inserts into the outside and back of the elbow. This can be extremely painful and patients often present with severe weakness of the affected arm.

A similar pain on the inside of the elbow is known as a golfers elbow. (aka medial epicondylitis)

The chiropractor will always assess the natural links in the chain starting at the neck, upper back and shoulder as this may be the actual cause of the pain. Especially if patients get pain in both elbows, we expect to see a central problem – usually in the neck.

Often a shoulder problem will eventually manifest itself as elbow pain. The wrist is also examined to see if restriction here is causing problems with the forearm muscles which attach on to the elbow.

Whatever the injury to the elbow, the chiropractor will tell you why it is happening and treat all the areas involved, so the elbow will heal in the quickest possible time.

If you want to discuss alternatives to drugs and surgery for your elbow pain, then we would be happy to help.
